Frequently Asked Questions

Off-Road Capability & Build

What is the design philosophy behind Black Series?

Born in the rugged Australian Outback, our trailers are engineered for Real World Testing. We combine heavy-duty off-road capability with luxury living, so you do not sacrifice comfort when exploring remote locations.

How do Black Series trailers handle extreme off-road vibrations?

We use a proprietary 4-link independent suspension system and a reinforced aluminum composite body. Every joint and fastener is designed to withstand the harmonic vibrations of washboard roads and rock crawling.

Is the chassis built for long-term durability?

Yes. Our chassis are hot-dipped galvanized to prevent rust and corrosion, even in coastal environments or salt-treated winter roads. This is standard across all HQ and Classic models.

What makes the Black Series suspension unique?

Unlike standard leaf springs, our suspension features dual shock absorbers and heavy-duty coil springs, letting each wheel move independently to keep the trailer level and reduce stress on internal cabinetry.

Are the trailers equipped with off-road brakes?

Yes, we utilize heavy-duty electric-over-hydraulic or electric drum brakes designed to provide maximum stopping power on steep, loose-surface descents.

What is the departure angle of a Black Series trailer?

Our trailers are designed with high-clearance rear bumpers and angled tails, providing an aggressive departure angle (typically 25 to 30 degrees) to prevent dragging on steep inclines.

Can I change the wheel bolt pattern to match my truck?

Our standard hubs are designed for common off-road patterns. Our wheels are standard 16-inch off-road alloys that fit many popular tire brands; we do not recommend unauthorized modifications.

Power, Climate & Electronics

Are Black Series trailers truly 4-Season capable?

Yes. With R16-rated insulation, heated internal water tanks, and integrated diesel heating systems, our units are designed to keep you comfortable from -10F to 110F.

What kind of battery capacity can I expect in a 2026 Black Series?

Black Series trailers come standard with a 400Ah lithium (LiFePO4) battery bank (4 × 100Ah) across the HQ lineup; the compact HQ12 and the TH19 toy hauler come with dual 100Ah batteries (200Ah). Combined with solar, this provides storage for extended off-grid stays.

Can I run the air conditioning off-grid?

Our models include a 2,000W pure sine wave inverter and Soft-Start A/C technology, which lowers the air conditioner's startup draw so it can run from the battery bank rather than requiring a generator. Actual off-grid A/C runtime depends on your battery capacity and solar input, so plan around your trip length.

How much solar power is pre-installed?

Black Series trailers come with 600W of roof-mounted solar on the Base trim, stepping up to 1,200W on the Yellow Stone and Rocky Mountain trims. The system is also expandable with dedicated ports for portable solar blankets.

Does the trailer support smart monitoring?

Yes, our latest models feature a centralized control hub with Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to monitor water levels, battery health, and solar input directly from your smartphone.

Is the electrical system compliant with US standards?

Every Black Series trailer sold in North America features a fully NEC-compliant electrical system, including UL-listed components and 30-Amp shore power hookups.

Towing & Hitching

Do I need a special hitch for off-roading?

Yes. To allow for 360-degree articulation on uneven terrain, we provide a specialized articulating hitch (like the McHitch or DO35). This prevents the trailer from binding against your tow vehicle.

What is the recommended tow vehicle for an HQ19 or HQ21?

Due to our heavy-duty reinforced chassis, these models require a 3/4 ton truck (e.g. Ford F-250, RAM 2500) or higher to safely handle the tongue weight and GVWR. For help matching your vehicle to the right model, see our tow-vehicle matching guide.

Models & Buying

How many people do Black Series trailers sleep, and which model is right for me?

Our models sleep from 3 to 6 people. Couples often choose the HQ12 or HQ15; families lean toward the HQ17 with bunks; the HQ19, HQ21, and HQ21 Balcony are our larger flagship trailers; and the TH19 and TH22 are toy haulers with a garage. Our comparison guides can help you choose.

What's the difference between the Base, Yellow Stone, and Rocky Mountain trims?

Each model is offered in three trims that step up in off-grid capability and interior appointments — Base, Yellow Stone, and Rocky Mountain — with Rocky Mountain being the most fully equipped. For example, solar steps up from 600W on the Base trim to 1,200W on Yellow Stone and Rocky Mountain. See our Yellow Stone vs. Rocky Mountain comparison for the details.

How much does a Black Series trailer cost?

Official 2026 MSRP ranges from $49,899 for the compact HQ12 to $69,899 for the HQ21, HQ21 Balcony, and TH22. If you see much lower numbers on third-party listing sites, those are usually used-market prices, not new. See our 2026 lineup & pricing page for the full MSRP table, or request a personalized quote.

What do used Black Series trailers sell for — are they a good deal?

Used Black Series trailers on third-party marketplaces often list well below new MSRP, which can make older listings look like current new pricing. When comparing, check the model year, trim, and battery/solar configuration — newer models include upgraded standard equipment. Buying new factory-direct includes the full manufacturer warranty and can be reserved with a refundable $500 deposit. Current new MSRP is on our 2026 lineup & pricing page.

How do I get parts or reach a real person for support?

Reach our team through our Parts & Service and Customer Service pages, call (833) 822-6737, or email info@blackseries.net. We're committed to responding and helping you keep your trailer on the trail.

I've read mixed reviews about Black Series service — what's being done?

We won't pretend our service was always perfect — response speed was our weak point, and we've made it our focus to do better. The trailers themselves have consistently earned praise for their suspension, floorplans, and value, and we're working to make ownership match. If you ever need us, email jqiu@blackseries.net and we'll make it right.

Where is Black Series based, and is it an established brand?

Black Series engineering is rooted in the Australian Outback, where our trailers were developed and proven on harsh terrain. We operate in North America with U.S. operations headquartered in Upland, California, supported by an authorized dealer and service network.
