The five things that actually fail

Across the ownership questions we field, the same five items account for most of them, and all five are on the schedule above.

  1. Wheel bearings. Rough-road use is hard on them, and a failure on the highway is serious. Check for play and heat, and repack on schedule. How hot is too hot.
  2. Tires that aged out. Trailer tires time out around six years regardless of tread depth. Read the DOT date code.
  3. Roof and window seals. Water gets in slowly and the damage is discovered late. Inspect twice a year. Reseal guide.
